Host Odisha asserted supremacy in the 1st Dhenkanal Fide Rating (Below-1800) Chess Tournament with Sanjeeban Nayak and Sambit Panda emerging champion and runner-up with eight points each at Synergy Engineering College in Dhenkanal today.
After a tie for the top spot, Nayak pocketed the top prize of Rs 30,000 on the basis of higher Buchholz tie-break score, while Panda settled with the runner-up prize of Rs 15,000.
FINAL STANDINGS (Top 10): 1-2: Sanjeeban Nayk, Sambit Panda (Odisha, 8 pts each); 3. Tirtha Sarkar (WB, 7.5); 4-9: Kaushik Nath, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Vimlesh Kumar Singh, Sneh Dave, Thompson Sahu, Hrushikesh Rath (7 each), 10. Bishal Pattnaik (6.5).
